TWO English sides have sealed their tickets to Madrid to battle for Europe’s Elite troph: The Champions League. The road to this stage has been one with so many drama, late goals, unbelievable comebacks, setbacks and miracles.
The group stage saw all regular culprit make it through to the knock out stage. This stage was where all the drama started unfolding and the mighty started falling through. The first fall saw the reigning champions Real Madrid bow out to the hands of a young and determined Ajax side who overturned Madrid’s first leg 2-1 win, by whooping the champions 4-1 at Santiago Bernabeu. Like this wasn’t enough, Manchester United also produced a second leg miracle away to PSG by overturning the French sides 2-0 away win by beating the French side, 3-1 in France.
Little did we know that the drama in the Round 16 was setting us up for more, as Ronaldo led Juventus side also came from 2-0 down in Spain to Athletico Madrid to win the game 3-0 at Turin, with Cristiano Ronaldo responsible for all three goals.
The quarter final saw the underdog, Ajax, also knock out one of the competition’s favorite, Juventus, out with an unbelievable 2-1 win in Turin after playing out a 1-1 draw in Netherland. Tottenham knocked out Manchester City, as Liverpool knocked out Bayern Munchen.
The drama in the semi final can be argued to be staged by Liverpool as they had to think deeply to run out Messi and his colleagues out of the competition, after being defeated 3-0 at Camp Nou, only to turn the table around and defeat Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield . Their English counterpart, Tottenham Hotspurs, also had to fight real hard after enduring a 1-0 defeat at White Hart Lane and deliver a massive comeback, 3-2, late in the game to snatch the final ticket.
With so much adrenaline and fighting spirit in these two sides, I must say this, all English final scheduled to hold on the 1st of June, would go down in history as one of the most entertaining and suspense-filled finals.
