To The Girl That Asks Why I Smile A Lot

It’s not that I don’t know how to flirt

It’s not that I don’t do small talks,

But there is something about your eyes

That screams you want something more

I told you I could kiss you

But pretended not to see your eyes expecting me to make a move

Instead, I smiled

And watched you trace the hair on my face with your hands

You seemed to have missed the point

I said I “could”, not I “want”

So stop trying to figure out if I am shy or not.

I smile not because I don’t know what to do

I smile because I am not ready for something new,

I have loved people who didn’t love me back

I have loved people who felt my love was too much,

I have loved people who didn’t want to love me anymore,

I have loved people who didn’t want any love at all

So, I smile because I’ll rather not start something we both cannot finish

I smile because at the end of the day everybody leaves

I smile because, just like the others, you will soon find someone else to replace me.
