The stage was set for both the arguable best players of world football; Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, to dazzle the world with their talents and help their teams to the next round of the UEFA Champions League.

Messi didn’t disappoint as he ran Manchester United ragged as he got two goals for his team while providing an assist to Philippe Coutinho for the third goal of the game, ending Manchester United’s run in the competition. He was undoubtedly the star of the show.

On the otherhand, Christiano Ronaldo got his team to a bright start by scoring the first goal of the game in the 26th minute, but their lead didn’t last too long as Donnie Van de Beek equalized just eight minutes later. The second half saw a Ajax play like they really wanted the win more, with the home team, Juventus playing with lesser drive as compared to the young and hungry Ajax side.

It took Lionel Messi’s magic to bring calm to Nou Camp as their opponent started the game like a lion looking to get their pound of flesh from their defeat in the first leg. But this wasn’t to be so as Messi pounced on Asley Young’s mistake to beat De Gea with a low left curler shot. In less than 6 minutes from his first goal, he adds another as De Gea fumbles to stop a right footed shot from the Barcelona maestro and captain.

For the first time since 2015, Cristiano Ronaldo will have to watch the remaining part of the Champions League, if at all, from the confines of his home having won it for the past three years.
